Things To Do In LA This Month

    March 12, 2018

Los Angeles Activities - Atelier Apartments

Can you feel it? It’s March, and the winter is finally receding, which means there are going to be a wide swath of fun, outdoor (and indoor) oriented activities for people to partake in across the country. This goes doubly for the areas near the apartments for rent in Los Angeles, CA, and, with that in mind, we’ve rounded up a few suggestions you might want to take a look at to start filling up your calendar.

These represent only a portion of all the amazing things that will be going on in LA this month, but they’ll be plenty enough to give you some inspiration to dig deeper and make the most of your March. Read on, as we cover some of the finer options and get ready to go out and explore the wonder of the city as the seasons begin to change.

    Beyond Wonderland

We’ll kick things off with something that nearly everyone can enjoy -- live music. While this particular offering might be considered more LA-adjacent than LA-proper, the Beyond Wonderland festival taking place March 16th and 17th at the NOS Events Center in San Bernardino is set up to be quite the spectacle for fans of trance-heavy beats and impressive light shows.

This springtime experience, a spin-off of Insomniac’s Wonderland Series will feature performers like Alesso, TIËSTO, KSHMR, Flosstradamus, and many others. There will be four main stages -- the Queen’s Domain, Mad Hatter’s Castle, Caterpillar’s Garden, and Cheshire Woods -- along with two supplementary stages, Beyond Wench and Wide Awake. Beyond that, the festival grounds will be littered with engaging art and colorful costumed characters:

“When day breaks in Wonderland, a curious cast of characters emerges, and fantastical animals of all shapes and sizes run wild. In this place beyond our imaginations, colors shine brighter, smiles are wider, and the secrets of Wonderland come to light.”

Be sure to check out the Headliner’s Handbook to learn more about the philosophy and principles behind this event, and the Festival Map so you have a good idea of where everything is located.

    Cherry Blossom Festival

The changing seasons and rising temperatures signal the first blooms of spring, which means the cherry blossom trees will be reaching the height of their splendor.

The Cherry Blossom Festival at Descanso Gardens will be celebrating these Japanese wonders throughout the month, with several special events for guests to enjoy.

The Spring Bloom Walks, for instance, will take garden visitors on a guided stroll through the magnificent trees, where they can learn more about the history, biology, and significance of the cherry blossoms and other flowering trees that mark this space.

Alternatively, impromptu feasts like the Cherry Blossom Pop-Up Dinner will treat members of the gardens to a fabulous four-course meal, courtesy of Executive Chef Philip Mack, and dedicated to “paying homage to the bounty of the season.”

There are few ways to mark the coming of spring as dining amongst its most attractive trees, so be sure to clear your calendar, check out the menu, and make a reservation so you can enjoy.

    LA Nature Fest

For a different take on the natural wonders of Southern California, you might try checking out the LA Nature Fest at the Natural History Museum on March 17th and 18th. You might not have known about the animal life you can find around town, and this event promises that you’ll be able to “discover LA’s wild side,” learning more about the urban wilderness that is the City Of Angels:

“We share the city of Los Angeles with many interesting animal neighbors, from the Griffith Park mountain lion to the birds in the Nature Gardens. Come and explore the wild side of Los Angeles at NHMLA. Meet an opossum, do lunch with a rattlesnake, and go for a walk with a desert tortoise. Museum scientists will be on hand to answer your questions about snails, bugs, birds, and all things city nature.”

Beyond simply seeing the animals, you’ll be able to enjoy live music and family-friendly performances, more than 30 exhibitor booths with crafts and other wares, and expert tips from staff on how to attract wildlife to your garden. Don’t forget to document your visit, and share on your favorite social platforms with the hashtag #LANatureFest.

The Joffrey Ballet’s Romeo And Juliet

Who doesn’t love a well-choreographed classic? On March 9th, 11th, and 17th, the Joffrey Ballet will be heading to The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to put their spin on the timeless tale of Romeo & Juliet. Backed by a live orchestra, they’ll be dancing their hearts out as the recount this well-known story, updated with a more modern twist:

“Much more than the archetypal tragic story of forbidden love, this reimagined tale takes place amid the tumult of 20th century Italian politics and sets Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers against a backdrop of politics and war.”

Of course, they’ll still be using the classic score by Sergei Prokofiev, but they’ll be outfitted in some magnificent and contemporary costumes courtesy of Tatyana Van Walsum, adding to the 1930s atmosphere and setting the tone for this politically-charged retelling.

You can prep yourself by taking a gander at the performance program, learning more about the Center Dance Arts, and getting your tickets in advance for the best seats in the house.

    The Arcade Expo

If you’re up for a trip to the Museum Of Pinball in Banning, you’ll be able to partake in over 1,100 old-school pinball and arcade rigs -- tournament style. The Arcade Expo will feature freeplay on all of their machines, along with a Kong-Off competition, pinball silent auction, and swap meet/flea market for buying and selling pinball/arcade machines and other game-related items.

This event will be taking place from March 16th to March 18th, and tickets are on sale now. For a better idea of what you’ll be getting yourself into, take a look at some of the photos and footage from the inaugural Arcade Expoan enhanced experience.
