Memorial Day Weekend is coming fast to the apartments for rent in Los Angeles, and the city is about to be buzzing with all sorts of fun events to unofficially kick off the summer. If you haven’t already made plans, you might want to enjoy one of these upcoming extravaganzas, or, you might even be interested in making your own fun for Memorial Day Weekend instead? Either way, we’ve got you covered; here are a few ideas for how you can have a blast come Memorial Day 2019.

Attend an Amazing Memorial Day Event

If you’re like many people, the thought of heading out to a massive, planned gathering for Memorial Day is just what you need to make the weekend a great time. There are dozens, maybe hundreds of worthwhile events planned around LA for the weekend, but let’s take a look at a few of the biggest and most spectacular, shall we?

    Fiesta Hermosa

Fiesta Hermosa has been a hallmark of the Southern California experience since it was first created in 1972. Now, almost 50 years later, it’s still going strong and still making Memorial Day Weekend a blast for all to attend. As usual, the annual festival will be taking place in downtown Hermosa Beach on May 25th, 26th, and 27th. You’ll find plenty to hold your interest, for sure, but most come to check out the vast number of art vendors who will be in attendance and the live music sessions:

“People flock to Fiesta Hermosa each year for not only the art fair, but for the Music – which is always of the highest caliber. There are two stages featuring live music – one at the Main Stage on the Pier and another in the Charity Beer & Wine Garden.”

As they’re quick to point out, Fiesta Hermosa has featured many of the best tribute bands, paying homage to rock & roll greats like Bob Seger, Santana, and Van Halen. There will also be some original acts in the mix that you won’t want to miss. Top all this off with an expansive selection of freshly made food from various cultural persuasions, and you’ve got the recipe for what might be the perfect Memorial Day festival atmosphere.

    The Memorial Day Weekend Spectacular

If you’re all about party time and looking to stay close to DTLA, you’ll want to head to The Reserve on May 26th for their gigantic Memorial Day Weekend extravaganza. This party assumes ahead of time that you won’t have to go to school or work the next day, so it’s raging all night, and, if you RSVP ahead of time, you can get in free if you head there before 11:00PM. The Reserve itself has a reputation for class, elegance, and grace, so it’s distinguished itself as a luxurious hotspot in the downtown area — this Memorial Day party just gives you even more of a reason to head there and check out the space while having a great time.

The Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Festival

For the open air music festival vibe, your best bet on Memorial Day Weekend will be heading to the Rancho Santa Susana Community Park in Ventura County for the Simi Valley Cajun & Blues Festival. This event, which takes place annually and mimics the wild and charming atmosphere of a New Orleans street festival, will feature all kinds of great Louisiana food for you to enjoy (jambalaya, crawfish, alligator sausage, you name it). In addition to the fine food and riveting ambiance, there’s also the main attraction — the great music. This year’s lineup includes:

    • Jefferson Starship
    • Spin Doctors
    • 3 Sista blues
    • Acadiana
    • Ambrosia
    • The Bayou Brothers
    • Corey Ledet and His Zydeco Band
    • David Sousa & Zydeco Mudbugs
    • The Delgado Brothers
    • DSB
    • Dwayne Dopsie & The Zydeco Hellraisers
    • Lightnin’ Willie
    • Lisa Haley & The Zydekats
    • Mark St. Mary
    • Pete Anderson
    • Queen Nation
    • Teresa James and the Rhythm Tramps

And there will be plenty more fun to be had should you choose to head down to this amazing event, so be sure to check out the schedule for more information and get those tickets soon to make sure you can attend.

Have Your Own Little Memorial Day Picnic

Now, if you’d prefer to skip the bustle of some of these big events, but still want to have your own little bit of fun in LA, you could always plan your own picnic for Memorial Day Weekend and invite a few friends. The list of optimal picnic locations in and around the city is staggering, and if you’ve forgotten the finer points of how to prepare for such an outing, Cheryl Sousan, the “Tidy Mom,” has all the tips you’ll need on How to Plan a Perfect Picnic and what you’ll need to ensure it goes off without a hitch.

Head Out for a Memorial Day Trip

There’s no rule saying you have to stay within the confines of the city for Memorial Day Weekend. With the extra time afforded by a day off, you could easily hit the road for a quick trip to a nearby destination. There are plenty of locales around Southern California that are near enough to LA that you can make it there by land and still have plenty of time to enjoy yourself, so consider packing a bag, gassing up the car (or truck) and getting out there for a Memorial Day adventure of your own making.
